Series One

The original series of Mighty Ducks action figures sold so well, Disney decided to go along and create four more! Featuring the largest rollout of characters, this series of action figures also included one of six trading cards with each pack, as well as a built-in decoding mask for revealing hidden messages on the cards and cardbacks of the figures. Team Leader Wildwing
Wingfig1.jpg (41533 bytes)

Featuring a superb sculpt and a downcast posture, the original Wildwing figure is one of the best. Wildwing also comes equipped with plenty of accessories, including goalie pad leg armor, skates, and a shoulder storage clip for projectile pucks. A spring-loaded launcher for the three pucks is located in his right arm gauntlet, which is technically the wrong side. In order to maintain balance, the figure needs to be leaned forward a little, giving him a slight hunchback appearance. But by far, this is the best facial sculpt you'll get.

Weapons Expert Nosedive

A cute smirk that befits Nosedive's attitude makes the facial sculpt of this figure excellent. Nosedive comes with a pucklauncher, hover skates, a duckcycle helmet, and a shoulder-mounted catapault for two plastic bladed disks. While the shoulder catapault is a little clumsy and difficult to figure out how to use, the hover skates make a neat accessory, and the pucklauncher is a fitting inclusion. Nosedive has excellent body posture as well.

Spin Attack Mallory

The rarest figure in the series, Mallory was only packed one to a whole case of figures when shipped from the manufacturer. Female action figures in general are rare and highly prized by collectors, which makes the chances of finding a Mallory figure mint on card very good. Because of her light weight, Mallory's figure has balance issues. But her face and body sculpt are excellent. Her open right hand helps to illustrate her martial arts capability. For accessories, Mallory has hook-tipped armored boots, a duckcycle helmet, skates, and a wrist-mounted nunchuck device. The spinning chuck is unique amongst the entire set of Ducks action figures.

Duke L'Orange
dukefig1.jpg (28078 bytes)

Duke gets the short end of the hockey stick, with decidedly the worst facial sculpt of any figure in the series. The notch in the right side of his beak is missing, and his eyepatch has been turned into a large cylinder that bores through his head. Aside from that, Duke's body sculpt is pretty good. Unlike the other Ducks, he has one raised finger on his left hand, instead of just balled fists. His accessories include a grappling hook, skates, armored boots, and his saving grace: a well-done sabre that actually mounts on his right left shoulder.

Combat Specialist Grin
grinfig1.jpg (25570 bytes)

Grin's action figure seems to have been constructed on a different scale than the other figs in the series. Though he towers over six feet tall, his action figure is dwarfed by both Wildwing and Duke. His facial sculpt leaves something to be desired. Grin's shoulderpads have also shrunk considerably to allow for full 180 degee rotation of the arms. Grin's accessories include skates, his charactaristic visor, and a pucklauncher powered by a finger-flick motion, rather than being spring-loaded.

Lord Dragaunus

Draggy.JPG (13517 bytes)
We all know that the bad guys aren't supposed to be cute, but Dragaunus's action figure is downright ugly, in a very bad way. Unfortunately, he gets the worst overall sculpt of the entire series. Much like Grin, Dragaunus is supposed to be tall, eight feet actually. But his action figure is just as short that of the shortest  member of the team: Mallory. To preserve the figure's mobility, the robes are removable, which is actually a nice option. Another interesting feature is Dragaunus's fire-breathing capability, where rolling a wheel in his shoulder reels a plastic flame from his open jaws. Dragaunus's accessories include a strap-on wrist com, a wrist laser, a burrowing mine device, and an odd, tentacled probe of some sort.

Notes: Because this series was the first to be released, it is the hardest to find on the second-hand market these days. Collectors have kept their Mallory figs nice and clean in their cards, so they will be much easier to find than the rest of the series. When you do come across them, they are at garage sales or in used lots online, missing their trading cards and a good deal of accessories.
